Bookmaking Workshop

At the Plumb on 5/18 at 10AM. Shelton bookbinder, Cathy Reeve joins Miss Maura in a workshop on all that goes into making a book from spine and cover to pages. In this hands-on session, each child 9-12 will create at least one book with inexpensive tools using interesting and recycled materials; supplies and a snack provided. Registration is required and begins two weeks in advance.

Shelton Reading Circle

At the Branch on 5/14 at 7PM. This book discussion group is sponsored by the Shelton Historical Society. The group was founded in 1894 and met in members’ homes to actually read novels aloud while doing charity work for community causes. Ellen Kolesk is the facilitator, and can be reached at: 203-925-1803.

Harold‘s Purple Crayon Party

At the Plumb on 5/11 at 2PM. Red and orange, purple and blue – kids 1-10 bring old, broken crayons and create a Crayon Recycling Project through Crazy Crayons; featuring the classic Harold and the Purple Crayon, each child also creates crayon masterpieces to take home.

Mulan Chuan

At the Branch on 5/11 at 1PM. Inspired by traditional and classical movements from theater, dance, the martial arts, MuLan Chuan is one of modern China’s movement art forms.  The physicality is marvelous for achieving good health and inner balance in as much as it is a compendium of China’s aesthetic disciplines.  Stately swords and fluttering fans are used in MuLan Chuan, but the practitioners are everyday folk–male, female, young and old.  This will be a demonstration and short introductory class taught by Jichun Sun and her students.
