Palace of Sweets – Local Author Talk
At the Plumb Library, Saturday, 4/9 at 2pm. Sal Coppola stirred up a fictional love tale with sweet local memories and the Vietnam War and the result is his novel Palace of Sweets. Sal returns to discuss his book featuring the popular and very real Vonetes Ice Cream shop on Main Street in Derby. Coppola’s book takes place in Derby and Shelton between 1967 and 1990. It chronicles five actual events that occurred in The Valley: the tragic Sponge Rubber explosion in Shelton, JFK’s visit to Derby in 1960, the failed takeover of Derby Savings Bank and the fatal River Restaurant explosion. Author Coppola will talk about his book and how he came to write it. Refreshments will be served at this free guest author event.
