Around the World in 60 Days

Are you getting a little tired of not going anywhere? How about traveling “Around the World in 60 Days”? Join the Shelton Libraries for a SPECIAL winter reading program with reading experiences for travelers from ages 1 year old to 18 years old as we explore the 7 Continents of the World!

This program will run from Monday, January 11, 2021 through Thursday, March 11, 2021. Each registered traveler will receive a passport. Once the traveler has their passport, the adventures will begin by “visiting” each continent through books, DVDs, music, and audiobooks available at Plumb Memorial Library.

There are three different ways to get your passport:

  1. Visit the Plumb’s Children’s Room Circulation Desk
  2. Drive up to the Plumb Curbside Pickup (available Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm)
  3. Print a copy at home using this link

Travelers ages 1-3 years old will be encouraged to read, watch, or listen to items borrowed from the library for each of the 7 continents. The passport has space for the traveler to write down the title of the items used to learn about the continents – only one item/title is needed per continent.

Travelers ages 4-18 years old will be required to read, watch, or listen using 3 items borrowed from the library for each of the 7 continents. The passport has space for the traveler to write down the title of the items used to learn about the continents – only three items/titles are needed per continent.

As you complete a continent page in your passport (with all spaces filled out), please come to Plumb to collect a stamp either curbside or at the children’s desk. You may choose to complete the entire passport at once, or you may decide to complete one continent at a time.

Travelers, if you are more comfortable staying in your car, the Plumb Staff would be happy to make a Continent Bundle for you to borrow through our Curbside Pickup; please email the Plumb Children’s Department staff at plumbchildrensdept@gmail.com making sure to provide the continent you wish to visit, the traveler’s name, age, library card number, and phone number. If the traveler does not have a library card, please include the travel companion’s card number. It is important to include the type of library items needed (books, DVDs, music, or audiobook) in order for the Continent Bundle to be properly prepared for you. Once the bundle is ready, we will contact you for pick up.

When the traveler has visited all 7 continents, completed their passport and gotten each page stamped, it is time to turn in the passport to collect a prize. The challenge is can you “visit” and complete the passport in 60 days –if you make it, you get an out-of-this-world prize!

Don’t take a fast plane, prizes will only be handed out at the end of the program on Thursday, March 11, 2021.

Safe travels and happy reading!
