Entangled & Ingested

Join us as we hear from Dr. Katharine Owens a researcher, artist, and National Geographic Explorer about her passion of ocean conservation. She will share how she uses the arts to communicate about the pervasive problem of plastic pollution. Dr. Owens will share with participants about her travels around the world and the garbage she has seen and it’s impact on nature. In her plight to educate the public about pollution, she has created unique life-sized portraits of animals harmed. She creates most of the pieces herself by hand sewing uses clean recycled film plastic onto canvas, but the largest pieces (including several life-sized whales) are being co-created with the public’s help. Children and Caregiver participants are encouraged to ask questions!

Children and Caregivers participants will also collaborate on a life-sized whale project! No sewing experience or skills are required—even newcomers to sewing can contribute to the unique piece! Caregivers must remain with and participate with their children for the program duration.
