The class will be taught by Debbie Wooley, a certified instructor with the Health Institute has been practicing Tai Chi for the past ten years and been teaching it for five years.
Debbie will be teaching the Tai Chi for Arthritis method which uses the Sun style. Each class will begin and end each class with a series of warm up and cool down exercises. There is no prerequisite to participate in this class. No equipment is necessary and participants may do this seated if they feel more comfortable.
The program is free and open to the public.

The Huntington Branch is launching a new book club for adults called Cooking the Books! Running from September 2024 to May 2025, this book club will alternate food based presentations/activities and book discussions on titles that relate to food in some way. Book club members will also get to show off their culinary skills by making and sharing something they’ve made at the book discussion meetings! Meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of the month from 5:15pm – 6:15pm.
By registering for this book club you are committing to 9 months of monthly meetings; 5 months will be activities/presentations, and 4 months will be book discussions with an associated food swap, on an alternating schedule. Book club members get priority registration for the 5 activity/presentation programs.
The titles to be read by the club this year are as follows:

The Plumb Memorial Library will be welcoming the Valley Shakespeare Festival as they perform Much Ado About Nothing.
The Valley Shakespeare Festival roams throughout Connecticut’s lower Naugatuck Valley region and is a dynamic celebration of Shakespeare’s timeless works, founded by Tom Simonetti. The festival features vibrant performances in beautiful outdoor settings, making Shakespeare accessible and enjoyable for all.
In addition to its main productions, the festival focuses on educational outreach by touring local high schools, engaging students with the Bard’s stories and themes, such as love and betrayal. This initiative helps young people connect with the characters and discussions that resonate today. With its blend of captivating performances and community involvement, the Valley Shakespeare Festival is a gem in the Lower Naugatuck Valley, inspiring a love of theater and literature among audiences of all ages!
This production is made possible by a grant from the Shakespeare in American Communities from the National Endowment of the Arts and Arts Midwest.

Exploring American Musicals with Michael Langlois
Join us for a discussion about American musicals dealing with the founding of our nation. It will focus on “1776” and “Hamilton”, and clips of both musicals will be shown. The speaker will be performer and lecturer, Michael Langlois.
Michael Langlois is a performer, lecturer, and storyteller with decades of experience on stage and off. He has lectured from Connecticut to California on topics ranging from acting and directing, to using one’s passions to bridge divides and engage with others. Michael has worked with young and old alike, helping individuals find their voice and tell their own unique stories. He has directed across New England, including performances for the Hartford Children’s Theatre, Springfield’s Drama Studio, and the Ashford Youth Theatre, where he worked for nearly 20 years as Artistic Director. Additionally, Michael worked for over a decade with New London, Connecticut’s Flock Theatre serving as an Associate Artist. There he directed, acted, and taught classes. Michael’s directing credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Othello; Lysistrata; Godspell; A Piece of My Heart; The Imaginary Invalid; Macbeth; The Crucible; Antigone; The Taming of the Shrew; and The Tempest. Acting credits include the Stage Manager in Our Town; King Henry in Henry V; Brutus in Julius Caesar; and Tobias in Sweeny Todd.

The night of our book club, each child will be expected to discuss the book, cook our featured food: Tacos-in-a-bag and clean-up too!
This is a hands-on food program. Recipe, ingredients, book discussion and directions provided by the library. Caregivers must remain at Plumb while child attends this program in it’s entirety.

Teens are invited to register for this hands-on jewelry making session. This class, led by Vanessa Fasanella, will teach teens the basics of using jewelry tools, designing jewelry, and using a beading board. Make a bracelet and earrings set, and take home the beading board.
