Flag “Quilt” Display at Plumb Memorial Library

Join Plumb Library in celebrating America’s diversity!

America is more like a quilt: many patches, many pieces, many colors, many sizes, all woven and held together by a common thread.

Plumb Library is creating an American flag “quilt” in our downstairs lobby. The quilt will highlight our many different stories that go into making America what she is today. We all have different beginnings, different stories, different backgrounds, but as Americans we all share the same dreams of freedom and opportunity.

Do you have an ancestor who made a daring journey, or overcame a daunting obstacle, or persisted through adversity to achieve their dream? Tell us about your ancestors, your culture, or the heritage your family brings to our shared American story.

Tell a story, draw a picture, display a photo, share a family heirloom. Translate your great uncle’s diary entry, share your baba’s pierogi recipe, tell us about your abuelo’s medal, describe your tante’s embroidery, your nonna’s wedding ring, or your family’s stomp dance ceremony.

Please come in and pick up a “fabric swatch” and add YOUR family story! Or you can bring in your story on an 8” high by 6” wide piece of paper. We will add it to our quilt. Your contribution can be anonymous. No need to put your name or your ancestors’ names if you prefer not to, but please share YOUR American story!
