Jo Ann Patters Memorial Scholarship

Plumb Memorial Library and the Huntington Branch Library are pleased to announce The Jo Ann Patters Memorial Scholarship, in memory of our dear friend and tireless volunteer. Jo Ann was a dedicated and steadfast supporter of the Shelton libraries, giving countless hours of her time, energy and talents to our book sales, our programming, and to anything that we needed help with. Her almost-daily presence and wicked sense of humor are greatly missed. The Friends of the Shelton Library is commemorating our good friend and her devotion to libraries with a scholarship in her name, a $1,000 award given once a year to a Shelton High School student. Donations to the Scholarship fund are appreciated, and should be sent to Director, Plumb Memorial Library, 65 Wooster Street, Shelton, CT 06484 Criteria for the scholarship are as follows:
- Shelton High School senior planning on attending post-secondary education
- Intent to pursue a career in Education, English, Teaching, Technology or Library Science
- Should have a valid library card
- Volunteer at a library at least 25 hours for past 2 years (school media center could be included)
- Minimum GPA requirement of a “B”
- 1 page/double spaced essay on choice of topic:
o Impact a library has had on my life (personal testimony)
o Life without Libraries (what is the future outlook for libraries, why libraries are important/relevant in the 21st century)
All applications should be sent to the SHS Guidance department. The selection is made by the guidance counselors at Shelton High School using the above criteria. Students should check with the Guidance Department for application deadlines and other information.
