Connecticut Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped
If you, or someone you know has difficulty reading regular print materials, the Connecticut Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped in Rocky Hill may be able to help. Our collection of 30,000+ digital audio books includes bestsellers, biographies, romance, mysteries, westerns, children’s books and much, much more. The Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped lends recorded books along with the necessary playback equipment, free of charge, to any Connecticut resident unable to read regular print due to a visual or physical disability. An application for service must be completed and signed by an appropriate certifying authority (such as a librarian). For more information call 860.721.2020 or toll free 800.842. 4516 to request an application or program information. An application for service can also be downloaded from the Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped website.

Sign up for the Wowbrary Service, which allows you to see which materials are purchased for each library via a weekly email. You will have to sign up separately for each library.

hoopla
hoopla is a service where you can read, listen and watch more than 950,000 eBook, audiobook, comic, movie, music, or television titles. Browse titles on your computer, tablet, phone or TV. Sign up with your library card and enjoy all of the content Hoopla has to offer! You can find additional help and FAQs on the hoopla support page.
Libby
Meet Libby, a NEW app for smart devices. Borrowing ebooks and audiobooks have never been so easy! Click the image to visit Libby’s website for information and links to download the app. Need further assistance? Visit this Libby Help link or ask a librarian.
The Palace Project
Find, check out, and read or listen to books from your local library. The Palace app is a free e-reading application for your mobile device. It allows libraries to serve all their e-content from multiple sources into one easy-to-use interface.
Audiobooks
Recorded books are available in CD, audiocassette, Playaway, and downloadable formats. We even have an mp3 player that you can borrow. Some of the eReaders that we lend out from the Huntington Branch possess a function that will ‘read’ ebooks to you.

Tutorials
Free tutorials for those new to the Internet created by organizations outside of the library.
This tutorial is intended for new computer users and focuses on using the mouse and other basic skills.
This is a set of resources, from Teaching Ideas, that contain interactive web pages that can be used to teach kids and adults about the internet.
Getting started with the Internet is an online tutorial, from the Goodwill Community Foundation, that covers browsing the web, navigating websites, and other things you can do on the internet. There are also additional resources that will cover internet safety and how to search better!

Child Health and Development Institute of Connecticut has provided a list of COVID-19 related resources and information.
Learn the essential skills they need to live and work in the 21st century. GCFLearnFree.org offers more than 180 topics, including more than 2,000 lessons, 800+ videos, and 55+ interactives and games, completely free.
Provides users with information from U.S. government agencies and other health-related organizations on various health and drug issues. Includes a medical encyclopedia, directory of medical services, videos and tools.
Onsite Services
Hardware
Computers are available with Internet connections at both libraries. Most computers run Windows 10. Kill-A-Watt power meter devices, and Playaway Locks are available for check-out within the libraries.
Software
The Microsoft Office Suite is available on most computers.
Wireless Internet
WiFi service is available both libraries.
Copying and Printing
The public can print from the computers and make copies for $.10 per black and white page, $.50 per color page. Wireless printing is available at Plumb.
Wireless Printing
Shelton Library System makes it even easier to print documents from a laptop, tablet or smartphone.
The steps listed below will guide you through the wireless printing process:
Select the library where you will be printing
- Select either Black and White or Color printing options
- In User Info box, type in your email address
- In Select Document box, click/tap on browse button to search for and attach the document
- Once attached, click on the green print button
- You will be directed to a confirmation page stating the request was processed

Fax machines are available for sending and receiving faxes for a fee of $.25 per page.
Tonies
Coming Soon to Both Libraries!
The Toniebox, a soft, shockproof, five-inch cube, is made of durable fabric and has no screens, sharp corners or edges. The hand-painted Tonies, which are two to three inches in size, play stories, music, and audio on educational topics suitable for children aged three to eight.
